This game has a wide array of units who serve different purposes for different teams, so it can be really hard to recommend units but here is a rough guide/walk-through of what you need to know:
All Units are 5*s
Something that a lot of people tend to misunderstand at the start of the game is that every character unit is a 5*.
What this means is, every 2*, 3* and 4* character (not including “unnamed characters”) in your box can be evolved into their 5* counter part. There were a lot of people at the start of this game who were rerolling for characters like 5* Goku and Naruto, but Goku and Naruto are given to you for free from story mode. This is not to say that getting duplicates is bad but just remember that every time you summon, the rarity doesn’t really matter.

Who are the best units in the game?
Tier lists are pretty much redundant on this game at the moment.
The meta changes every 2 weeks and even if it didn’t, each unit has a fair bit of potential to be used in one team or another, but here is my personal list of the best units to look out for right now:
Any Limited JUMP unit
Obviously, these cards aren’t always available so rerolling for the one you want won’t always be possible. That being said, the Limited Gacha JUMP units are insanely good and if you were going to reroll then you would probably want to try and grab one of these guys.

Other
Here I am going to list some Gacha exclusive units that I think are a fantastic addition for any account but are not worth rerolling for. It’s worth looking for these in an account with another unit (where the 2 units work together):

Remember, just because a unit was left off this list does not mean they are bad. If you like a character and want to reroll for them then go for it.
Other Healers/Support
I think it is worth at least trying to get one healer or support unit for when content begins to get hard, this isnt 100% neccesary right now but could be useful later
